A How-To Guide to Building Stronger Engagement on Social Media

If you need eyeballs on your brand, they’re probably scrolling through social media as we speak.

In the age of information, social media platforms have the almighty power to extend the reach of your brand if you wield it wisely. That being said, you’re probably wondering how you can reach the masses when every brand is trying to reach those same eyeballs at the same time. We can’t tell you the recipe to going viral but we can share a few easy tips to increase your social media engagement so you can reach more people and keep them coming back for more.

  1. Post consistently

Posting consistently doesn’t mean you need to post everyday, but often enough that your audience doesn’t forget about you. You definitely don’t want that! Without the content, it’s harder to engage with an audience that doesn’t see what you have to offer. It’s important to have an online presence and update your audience to remain relevant in their feeds so they can stay connected with your brand vs others trying to compete in the same space.

On the other hand, spamming is also not a cute look. Make sure you don’t overdo it as it is possible to get blacklisted from social media platforms for posting too much content and flooding people’s feeds. Try to remember it’s all about quality not quantity.

    Speaking of quality…

  2. Take time to craft

Not every post has to be a production, but the aesthetic is certainly appealing, especially to Millennials and Gen-z viewers like a curated look, it gives them the impression you’ve put some thought behind your content. Having high quality photos and videos is a bonus as it will be easier on the eyes. Taking time to plan out the look of your grid can also make a good impression on page visitors.

Putting in the effort to create content that wows your audience becomes a conversation starter once you figure out what is hot and trending...

  3. Do your research

We’re not talking about hitting the books, but looking at everyone’s best friend on the internet: Google. Take time to look at your competitors and what they are doing, as well as niche hashtags and trending audios that are relevant to your brand. Also, make note of what particular content has performed well on your pages to date and check your insights to curate content that will continue to drive folks to connect.

Create relatable and timely content so you can hop on trends when everyone is engaging, but be sure that your content stays relevant and true to your brand. It’s also a great idea to stay on top of any new platform algorithm changes to ensure your content capitalises on what each platform is prioritising. Currently, snappy videos are king over pretty pictures, so take your content and make it dynamic to capture more attention.

  4. Connect and collaborate

Finally, don’t forget to connect with your fans. Replying to comments and reposting any user-generated content not only builds brand loyalty, it also leads to an overall increase in engagement vs simply pushing content out and hoping to get engagement. Similar to posting, engaging does not need to be done daily but it is recommended that communication is consistent enough so your audience receives timely responses to their inquiries, feels connected to your brand and that there is “a voice” behind the brand.

Collaborating with your online community (i.e. other brands and influencers) also increases your visibility as you can tap into new markets. Aligning with the right influencers is also great at supporting and driving engagement through comments in order to boost your visibility. Don’t forget to explore new connections that make sense for your brand as you can also bank content from partnerships and use it to re-engage time after time.

There you have it! Increasing your engagement may feel overwhelming at first, but if you work your magic by following all of these tips, you will definitely see a boost in your engagement.
